The Great Business Card Hoax

The Great Business Card Hoax

I’d like to talk a little bit about the myths that surround Business Cards. Believe it or not, many people have come to underestimate the champion of first impressions. Let’s dive into a few of these misconceptions!

Myth 1 : I need 10,000,000 business cards.

Ah yes, the urge to select the 1,000 quantity when ordering. Or, heaven forbid, the 2,500. First off, I’ve never (ever) given away thousands of business cards – not even since I’ve worked for a company that MAKES business cards. Save your money, or invest it in a smaller quantity of nicer cards.

Myth 2 : A business card is only for supplying information.

Well, this might have been the case 20 years ago. However, in the world of smartphones, it’s all too easy to just exchange numbers. No, the business card has become much more important than that – it’s become a symbol of who you are and what you stand for. Today, a business card should scream “I’m important, and you need to make sure you remember me.” Invest in 100 or even 50 amazing business cards – you’ll be glad you did.

Myth 3 : A unique business card communicates that I’m trying too hard.

False. Sorry, I can’t be tactful about this one. There’s plenty of time to be serious later on – don’t take yourself too seriously when selecting a business card – have fun with it. Everyone appreciates something fresh or unexpected.

Myth 4 : Classy card, no problem. I just don’t see the value in a good design.

Ouch. The words a designer never wants to hear. Look it’s true that just typing out some text on a really flashy card is better than typing out text on a cut-rate card – but not much better. If a business card is an artist’s canvas then the design is the paint. It might cost you a little bit up front but in the long run it will be worth the investment. I am always drawn to a card that has the perfect marriage of paper and design.

Myth 5 : Flashy cards cost too much.

No! They don’t! Yes, they are more expensive than your average coffee-filter-thick card, but they’re worth it. At Moxy Ox, we do our best to provide the highest quality materials to our customers. Your first impression is worth it.

Myth 6 : Who needs color, or print on both sides?

Hey, don’t get me wrong, some of the classiest cards I’ve seen are black and white. However, a printer should never up the price on print for you to have full color or two-sided printing. I’ve always said, selling a card without those options is like selling a car with an “optional” engine. We include full color and two-sided printing on all our products because we think it’s vital to the success of the printed piece!

Well, that’s all for now, thanks for reading. Check out our business cards!
